Today RA Minister of Nature Protection Aramayis Grigoryan participated in the official opening ceremony of the thermo-modernized building located in 6 Daniel Varujan, Avan administrative district.

The UN resident coordinator in Armenia, UNDP resident representative Bradley Busetto, the RA Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Recourses Hayk Harutyunyan, Yerevan Municipality Development and Investment Programs Department director Armen Harutyunyan, Avan administrative district head Manvel Javadyan, the RA Ministry of Urban Development as well as representatives of international, planning and construction organizations, educational institutions participated in the event.

Under the coordination of RA Ministries of Nature Protection and Urban Development since 2010 the objective of “Enhancing the energetic efficiency of constructions” project financed by UNDP and Global Ecological Foundation has been thermo-modernization of typical buildings and illustration of the potential of energetic efficiency and economic argumentation of events. The thermo-modernization works were financed by UNDP-GEF project and co-financed by Yerevan Municipality. As a result of events directed to the enhancement of energetic efficiency, thermo energetic specific characteristics of the building were improved for about 60%; the index was mitigated from 178 kwh/m2 to 74kwh/m2. As a result it has become possible to provide the residents with rather accessible heating in the building (in terms of approximately 287AMD/M2 per month, 100% thermo level). The annual saving in terms of building level is approximately 6million AMD (gas and electricity rates).

This is the first experience of large scale thermo-modernization of flats in Armenia which may have many repetitions taking into consideration the necessity to ensure energetic security of the country as well as to mitigate expenses of buildings of the same type.
