RA Minister of Nature Protection Aramayis Grigoryan received “Save wolves” civil activity coordinator Karine Panosyan, members: Silva Adamyan /“Bird Lovers Centre” NGO/, Karine Danielyan /Association “For Sustainable Human Development” NGO /, Nare Aramyan and Lilit Grigoryan.
The project members expressed their anxiety about the RA Government decree of implemented events about regulations of quantity of wolves in Armenia and informed that, additionally, they seek out other ways of issue solution through the cooperation with the RA Ministry of Nature Protection.
The RA Minister of Nature Protection, thanking for the initiative of issue discussion and the suggestion of cooperation, noted, that in recent years the increase of the quantity of wolves has caused social-economic, as well as environmental serious problems. It damaged considerably pets, thus resulting in the implementation of appropriate actions undertaken by the RA Government.
Aramayis Grigoryan informed, that observations revealed that killed wolves were young or old isolated animals in their natural ecosystems driven from their packs, which come to inhabitations aiming to occupy areas and find food. The minister emphasized, that the wolf hunting was permitted only in adjacent areas of inhabitations. Additionally, the members of the program were offered to solve the problem by extending forest areas due to electric wires and artificial feeding.
RA Minister of Nature Protection Aramayis Grigoryan stated, that measures are taken towards the extension of forest areas in Armenia, particularly at the session of the board under the RA Minister of Nature Protection there was offered to outline areas with scientific corroborations where it will be possible to plant forests efficiently and some period of time is needed for the implementation of considered other means, and the activities fulfilled by the ministry are in the process. Moreover, the members of the undertaking were proposed to solve the issue in a legal way.
RA Minister of Nature Protection Aramayis Grigoryan suggested to submit all the mentioned suggestions in a written form for the discussion at the sessions of the public and scientific-technical boards under the RA Minister of Nature Protection, afterwards, it will be possible to present appropriate projects to the approval of the RA Government.
