The public review was held over the draft of development strategy for ecological education and upbringing

Public reviews of the draft of development strategy for ecological education and upbringing were held at UN office in Armenia. The representatives, experts of state departments of the Republic of Armenia, top universities in Armenia, NGOs were engaged. RA Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Khachik Hakobyan delivered opening remarks, who addressing the guests, noted:   

“Presently, the deepening of environmental issues conditioned by economic growth as a necessity to enhance the role of eco education and upbringing. The essential and urgency of development strategy for ecological education and upbringing are conditioned by unfavorable ecological state and under current conditions considerable discrepancy is observed between the economic growth and environmental quality; these reasons are in a very low level of public ecological consciousness and environmental attitude.  

In this regard, “Development Strategy for Ecological Education and Upbringing” draft developed by the RA Ministry of Nature Protection with the support of the UNDP is highlighted, which is involved in the Action Program of the Government of the Republic of Armenia for 2017 and priority issues. It will include tangible actions, concrete development courses with a focus on the sphere of ecological education and upbringing. The necessity of the draft adoption is also brought about by the responsibilities assumed by the Republic of Armenia within the frames of international educational and environmental conventions”.   
  The Supervisor of the Working Group drafting “Development Strategy for Ecological Education and Upbringing” document formed within the UNDP/GEF “Generate global environmental benefits through environmental education and raising awareness of stakeholders” project scopes Samvel Baloyan and other team members reported on the document of development strategy for ecological education and upbringing. S. Baloyan presented existing principal thesis, goals and problems, analysis of the present state, as well as anticipated outcomes from the strategy implementation.      
The members of the working group and Head of The RA MNP Information and Public Relation Department A. Vardanyan responded to the questions raised by the attendees. 
In the course of the public reviews opinions and propositions were made over “Development Strategy for Ecological Education and Upbringing” document, that will be included in an updated version.
