On May 22, on the initiative of the Ministry of Nature Protection and Armenian National Agrarian University (ANAU), there took place a conference on "Biodiversity in agrarian".
The event focused on raising public awareness on biodiversity, voicing existing problems and presenting solutions.
In his opening remarks, Rector of ANAU Vardan Urutyan urged to remember every day that the protection and conservation of endangered species of flora and fauna, increasing the volume of forest areas, restoration and well-balanced functioning of ecosystems are everyone’s duty.
In his greeting speech, Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Ashot Ghazaryan noted: "First of all, biodiversity is security for us, and we ought to preserve and develop it, specifically in strategic and policy terms".
Among the speakers, too, were Arthur Petrosyan, Head of Biodiversity and Forest Policy Department, Head of Biodiversity and Biosafety Policy Division Voskehat Grigoryan, who submitted the policy, existing problems and suggested solutions in the sphere.
On the margins of the conference, an expo exhibition was organized, where environmental, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development projects were illustrated.
During the event, views were exchanged on biodiversity management and sustainable development, inclusive of innovative ideas focused on sectorial existing problems and solutions; in attendance were the representatives of non-governmental organizations, university lecturers and students.
