Discussion on "Armenia accelerates the implementation of Paris Agreement" within the scope of "EU for Climate" regional project

On the initiative of the Ministry of Environment, and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the round-table discussion on "Armenia accelerates the implementation of Paris Agreement" was held today at the Armenia Marriott Hotel. Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan, Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan, UN Resident Coordinator for the Republic of Armenia Shombi Sharp, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Armenia Dmitry Mariyasin, Ekaterina Dorodnova, Head of Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Armenia, Andrea Baggioli, International Aid/Cooperation Officer of the Delegation of the European Union , including Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania Cornel Ionescu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic Bedrich Kopecky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland Paweł Cieplak Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic Vincenzo Del Monaco, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania Inga Stanytė-Toločkienė, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Armenia Klaus Wendelberger, Deputy Ministers of Environment Vardan Melikyan and Irina Ghaplanyan, Diana Harutyunyan, UNDP Climate Change Programme Coordinator attended the event. Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan and UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Dmitry Mariasin delivered opening remarks. The Minister of Environment made an in-depth submission of the Representation of the Republic of Armenia in COP25 and anticipated actions on progress towards the commitments under the Convention. The objective of the event is to discuss the commitments and the actions of the Republic of Armenia under the Convention addressed to mitigation and adaptation to climate change impacts, with a focus on promoting low emission and climate resilient industrial development through the harmonization of legislation and policies, as the Eastern Partnership country and the beneficiary of "EU for Climate" project. The discussion took a note of the topics discussed within the framework of the 25th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 25) to the United Nations Framework Convention to Combat Climate Change (UNFCCC) took place in Madrid.
