The Ministry of Environment holds discussions on new cooperation projects with the UNESCO Secretariat in the context of primary issues and priorities, the possibilities of expanding current reforms of the enviornmental protection sphere.
Within the framework of UNESCO Participation Programme for 2020-2021 biennium, the Ministry of Environment submitted ''Effective management of geological landscapes and natural monuments of Vayots Dzor region for preservation of geological dversity and sustainable development of cultural and landscape heritage'‘ to the UNESCO Secretariat.
By the project bid a number of actions are observed, including:
modernization of the list of natural geological, hydrogeological and natural-historic monuments,
clear-cut location of monuments, composition of cognitive-information packages on thereof,
cohesion of natural monuments with regional geological, tectonic-structural phenomena,
organizing seminars and informative visits for local self-government bodies, affected communities and for the stakeholder society,
development of public awareness-raising and ecological education,
complex observation of cultural-landscape heritage as a perspective direction for ecotourism development in Vayots Dzor region.
In a bid to provide the initial information necessary for the project fulfillment, in June 2020,  the specialists of the Ministry of Environment organized and accomplished cognitive routes, including the locations of geological, hydrographic, tectonic and historic-cultural monuments of Vayots Dzor region. More than three dozen monuments were reserached and mapped, which are shown in the map below.
The collected actual materials will be the basis for further document packages and booklets. An informative package will be composed for each monument, which will describe the significance of the monument in terms of the history of geological development of the region, archeological research, tectonically active shifts, identification of mineralized deep wells and research interpretation.
The envisaged activities will be a stimulus for the schoolchildren of the region for learning new ecological knowledge, upbringing,  establishment of ecological culture, environmental protection, the correct and reasonable approach of the person, the expression of abilities and the formation of behavior in the sphere of nature use and enviornmental safety.
