PREVENTED A CASE OF POACHING: SPECIAL GUARD UNIT OF SEVAN NP IN OPERATION

04-09-2020

Tonight, the fish poachers, setting up a net, tried to catch illegally the considerable quantity of   around 280,000 small fish of Gegharkunik trout species released by ''Trout Resource Rehabilitation and Fish Breeding Development Foundation” to Karchaghbyur-Masrik Rivers through special nets installed in Karchaghbyur River.
During the visits, the newly formed special guard unit of “Sevan'' national park detected a small net stretched across the river (in lower streams of Karchaghbyur), through which the poachers tried to catch small fish of  Gegharkunik trout species weighing 7 grams,  bred by means of the state-funded project and on the verge of extinction at Lake Sevan,  in a bid to use thereof for venal purposes.
''Trout Resource Rehabilitation and Fish Breeding Development Foundation” is funded by the state budget. The objective of the Foundation is to restore the habitats of endangered fish species due to overfishing, while some circles, using the information on the Internet, targeted the place of release.
The fishing net cage  was detected and removed as a result of consistent and clear-cut actions of the special guard unit of '' Sevan'' NP. The small fish accumulated in the net was released again.
A report on the incident was submitted to the RA Police by '' Sevan'' national park SNCO.
