The State Museum of Nature of Armenia was founded in 1952.
Ecological Education
An inter-administration Board for Ecological Education headed by the RA Minister of Nature Protection and RA Minister of Education and science was founded in 1998. The Board is a consultative body coordinating and organizing education and training of personnel. Expert groups have been created for the examination of the ecological education programs, teaching and methodological handbooks, plans and text-books. A national strategic program for ecological education is being developed by the RA Ministry of Nature Protection, Department of Ecological Policy and Teaching and Education Strategy. The Department has worked out the priorities in the phase-by-phase development of the RA ecological education: pre-school, school, specialized secondary high school, higher school and post-higher-school ecological education as well as the national strategic program for ecological education.
There are common priorities in the ecological education in the whole of the republic as well as in the city of Yerevan, which were worked out on the basis of the suggestions received from the RA National Academy of Sciences, Marzes (administrative districts), ministries and agencies concerned.
Of a special importance among these suggestions are the setting of ?state standards for ecological education? in each phase, elaboration and publishing of training plans, programs, handbooks on scientific methodology, books, dictionaries, encyclopaedia and other popular science-educational materials on ecological education and training, arrangement of conferences, seminars, competitions, round tables, TV and radio broadcast series, creation and demonstration of films, commercials, etc.
There are no pre-school establishments, schools or classes for basic ecological education in the republic.
The Armenian State Teachers Training Institute after Kh. Abovian is the only educational institution that is training teachers of ecology.
Ecological engineering is being properly taught in the state University of Engineering of Armenia.
In 2000 the Yerevan Institute of National Economy turned out its first graduates by the specialty ?Economy of Environmental Management?.
It is worth mentioning, that ecology training hours are included in the curriculum of humanitarian educational institutions, e.g., Yerevan state Institute of
Foreign Languages after V. Bryusov, H. Acharian University, etc.
Ecological Science
In the period from 1998 to 1999, research work on ecology and environment protection were carried out in the RA Academy of Sciences and within five ministries. The investigations include 90-100 scientific themes on various problems of ecology, environment protection and nature management.
More than 90% of the previous years? research work is being carried on. There is a tendency for increasing diversity of research themes and applied trends within the systems of the RA Academy of Sciences, RA Ministry of Energy and RA Ministry of Nature Protection.
Research activities are stirring up in the universities of Armenia. Higher interest in the ecology and nature protection are showing the Yerevan state University departments of biology, chemistry and geography, also the Armenian State University of Engineering. Of a special importance are the researches on deserting as well as on direct correlation between ozone degradation and skin cancer contraction in Yerevan.
From the applied point of view, noteworthy and perspective are the studies carried out in the RA Academy of Sciences Institute of Hydroponics and science-motivated cultivation of certain sorts of trees and shrubs around the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant.
There are a few studies in the fields of medical ecology, ecological safety, ecological examination, nature management economics, ecological education and training.

The State Museum of Nature of Armenia was founded in 1952.
The museum was situated on the territory of the historical monument of 18th century "Blue Mosque". While restoring it the museum was turned out of Mosque. At present the museum takes in half-destroyed, which is in need of repair, and then it is necessary to set up a new exposition. Collection until 1996 contained about 10000 more than unique displays of stuffed endemic birds, mammals, reptile, insects and didactic materials on all the links of the biosphere. It must be noted that by its profile the museum applies to not numerous complex museums of nature.It is one of the eight museums in CIS and in Trans Caucasus is the only one. The exposition of the museum is directed at the ecological education of the pupils and educational youth. The exposition had been built in the light of propaganda of nature. In the museum there had been held thematic lessons and practical training for students of university, which had biological trend. The museum thought the population to use nature correctly.
Except giving special knowledge, thanks to amateur clubs in force such as cat clubs, dog clubs,aquariumists, cactusists and so on, the museum carried out esthetic education of the children.These clubs united the people of different ages and proffessions.Every year the museum held republican and all-union clubs exhibitions.The exposition of the museum is directed at the ecological education of the pupils and educational youth.
